Farm Highlight | Bela Epoca Farm, Brazil

Brazil is the largest producer and exporter of coffee in the world. The Bela Epoca farm is located in the Alta Mogiana region, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The region typically produces some of the best coffee in Brazil due to its favourable climate, high altitudes, access to technology, qualified labour and excellent infrastructure.

Andre da Cunha, his brother Luis Claudio and sister Silvia, run the Bela Epoca farm together. Coffee has been grown on this farm for over 80 years and production spans across 3 generations within the family. Part of the farm is solely dedicated to growing organic coffee and is certified by IBD – Orgânico Brasil. Our Single Origin offering, Brazil Organic Bela Epoca, is produced in this plot. The plot sits on a naturally shaded area of the farm and this specific climate encourages a delay in the cherries ripening, allowing them to develop more sugars and flavours. This sweetness is reflected in the final product once the coffee has been expertly roasted and brewed.

For the past couple of decades, the Cunha brothers have been working in alliance with the Agronomic Institute of Campinas to improve the quality of their product. The partnership has allowed the family to experiment and closely analyse their coffee plants based on factors such as productivity, uniform maturation, longevity and taste. The seeds and seedlings are all produced in nurseries at the farm, ensuring the process is monitored from start to finish and continually tweaked to achieve the best results. The experimental nursery now boasts over 100 different coffee varieties.

We are proud to be roasting this amazing coffee and thank our friends at Minas Hill for facilitating this relationship.  Minas Hill work to connect farmer to roaster and focus on creating sustainable, accountable and transparent relationships.
