Farm Highlight | Sante Fe Farm, Colombia

Colombia is one of the largest coffee producing countries in the world, and its coffee industry is a vital part of its economy. Colombia is known for producing high quality, specialty coffee that is rich and full bodied in flavour. Most coffee comes from farmers belonging to cooperatives, that assist them to access the global coffee market and earn a fair price for their product. These cooperatives also provide coffee farmers and producers with support to improve their production methods, infrastructure and overall working conditions.

Dona Nubia's farm, Sante Fe is located in Pijao, Quindio and has been in the family since the 1970's. Quindio is known for its quality coffee plantations, colourful architecture and a variety of tourist landmarks. Dona inherited her farm when her father passed away and has managed it since. The farm sits at an altitude of 1850 metres above sea level and is home to a variety of shade trees and fruit trees such as banana, plantain, guava and avocado. Her farm is Rain Forest Alliance Certified.

The Nubia's Santa Fe farm is committed to high quality coffee production with over half of the production dedicated to specialty coffee. Dona is passionate about producing quality coffee and continues to strive to produce exceptional and unique beans, whilst supporting her father's legacy.

Climate change is becoming increasingly more problematic for Colombian coffee producers. The weather in Pijao is very unpredictable and the annual yield of coffee is slowly reducing on Dona’s farm. Despite this, Dona is focused on improving her product and the health of her coffee plants, so she can continue to strive for excellent results. In addition to growing coffee, Dona also runs a boutique hotel at her Sante Fe farm, where she hosts guests and teaches them about the coffee growing process and the history of the coffee plantation.

Dona is supported by Cofinet, whom work to ensure positive, ethical and long term relationships between growers and coffee roasters.

Our Single Origin offering from this farm, Colombia Nubia Loaiza, is a very clean coffee that highlights tasting notes of dark red fruits and boasts a lingering boozy sweetness. Try it here!
